When visiting a shinto shrine, or attending a funeral, Japanese men and women wear a traditional shoe called a geta. Women also wear them when they are dressed in a kimono.
The sole of the geta is made of wood. Two more slats of wood are attached to the bottom of the sole at the heel and the toe. A strap for the toes is attached to the top.
